Rules Discussion

Hi, I’m Ronda-El, and I am so excited to bring you a check in on of the latest rules discussions around Flip 7

Rule Question 1

What happens if you draw a Second Chance card during a “Flip Three” action, especially if you already have a Second Chance card? Do you get to keep an extra, or does it have to be passed on or discarded, and when must this happen?

Rulesplainer 1

If you already have a Second Chance card and draw another one during a Flip Three, you must immediately pass the newly drawn Second Chance card to another active player. If there are no other active players, it is discarded. You can never have more than one Second Chance card, even during Flip Three. This ruling was confirmed by Alyssa from The Op, the publisher. You do not set it aside or keep it until the end of the Flip Three action; it is resolved the moment you draw it. This is different from Freeze or Flip Three cards, which are set aside and resolved later. If you do not already have a Second Chance, you may keep the one you draw, or give it away immediately if you choose. Ownership of Second Chance cards is thus assigned right away upon drawing during Flip Three.

Rule Question 2

When are Freeze or another Flip Three cards drawn during a Flip Three resolved? What if you bust or achieve “Flip 7” in the middle of a Flip Three?

Rulesplainer 2

If you reveal a Freeze or Flip Three card during the resolution of a Flip Three, those cards are set aside and only resolved after all three cards have been flipped, as long as you did not bust or complete Flip 7. If busting or Flip 7 happens during the Flip Three, the round ends or you bust, and those set-aside action cards are not resolved and simply remain unassigned. Only successful completion of the Flip Three (without bust or Flip 7) triggers resolution of those delayed cards afterwards.

Rule Question 3

If you draw a Second Chance card during a Flip Three and you already have a Second Chance card, but you use your original one during the Flip Three, can you then keep the new one?

Rulesplainer 3

No, you cannot. If you already have a Second Chance card and draw another during Flip Three, you must immediately give the new one to another active player (or discard it if you’re the only one left). Even if you use your original Second Chance during that same Flip Three, you do not get to reclaim or keep the one you just drew. The assignment (giving away or discarding) happens instantly upon drawing the extra card, regardless of whether you might need a Second Chance later in the Flip Three.

Rule Question 4

If a player who does not already have a Second Chance card draws one during a Flip Three, do they have to keep it, can they give it away, and can it be used immediately if a bust occurs during the same Flip Three?

Rulesplainer 4

If you do not have a Second Chance card before Flip Three, when you draw one you may keep it or give it to another active player right away, depending on your strategy. Importantly, if you keep it and later draw a duplicate (busting) number during the same Flip Three, you can use the Second Chance card immediately to avoid busting. You do not have to wait until the end of the Flip Three to assign ownership or to use it; assignment and usage can occur instantly as the cards are flipped.

Rule Question 5

What is the main difference between how Second Chance cards versus Freeze or Flip Three cards are handled when drawn during a Flip Three resolution?

Rulesplainer 5

The key difference is timing: Second Chance cards drawn during a Flip Three are assigned immediately (either kept, given away, or used if needed). In contrast, Freeze and Flip Three cards drawn during a Flip Three are set aside and only assigned/activated after the current Flip Three resolves successfully (i.e., no bust or Flip 7). If the Flip Three ends by busting or with a Flip 7, set-aside Freeze or Flip Three cards are discarded and not resolved. This rule helps players ensure they do not miss the chance to use a newly drawn Second Chance card to prevent an immediate bust, which would not be possible if its assignment was delayed like other action cards.
